Abstract

This network represents the base water system of Monterrey. This was developed as a case study for the CITRIS seed grant that helped kick start OpenAgua. View it here https://www.openagua.org/public/project/1/1876

This site demonstrates for the opportunities that exist to developing a robust, stakeholder-centric decision support system (DSS) for Monterrey, Mexico.

Detailed description
This project demonstrates for the opportunities that exist to developing a robust, stakeholder-centric decision support system (DSS) for Monterrey, Mexico.

Monterrey can be characterized as a water-stressed city, with demand about equal to supply, yet in the context of a growing population. As various government agencies, academic institutions, and consultants explore various alternatives for planning water resources in the near and long term futures, various social groups are actively providing robust feedback on the planning process and on specific proposals.

The purpose of this planning tool is to:

Create a planning model of the Monterrey water system
Share the model, including input, processes, and output, with the general public
Facilitate communication of key model insights with the general public.
In the short term, this sight serves as a demonstration decision support tool for Monterrey, with a subset of alternatives currently being considered. Depending on feedback from stakeholders, this tool can be expanded to include not only more scenarios but also more tools on this website to facilitate exploration of results, such as with custom graphs and tables that can then be shared with the broader public.
