Abstract

Water level data were collected using data logging pressure sensors near the Ring of Cenotes with the State of Yucatán, México. Manual water level data were collected at all sites after surveying elevation control points using dual frequency GPS units and a 32x autolevel. These data include water levels in cenotes, dug wells, and drilled wells located in the northwestern portion of the State of Yucatán. Measurement locations included Progreso, Kinchil, Maní, Mérida, San Antionio Xiat, and Chocholá.

Data within this resource include raw datalogger files, manual water level data, and GPS coordinates for measurement sites.

Additional Metadata

Name Value
manual_levels Two identical files with different formats (gnuzipped json file and parquet file). These files contain manually collected water level data at monitoring stations. Water depths were measured in meters below a surveyed reference point using an electrical water level meter.
Cenote_sites.csv Station : name of location Latitude : latitude (degree, min, sec) of station Longitude : longitude (deg, min, sec) of station Water_Level : Elevation of reference point in meters above sea level The Latitude and Longitude are the location of the GPS unit used for surveying. At some sites, the GPS could not be set up at the point used to measure water levels and may be a short distance (less than 20 m) from the GPS survey point.
level_logger_20min Two identical files with different formats (gnuzipped json file and parquet file). These files contain data interpolated to 20 minute sample interval at the samples sites, at a tide gauging station, and barologger air pressure and temperature data. All water levels are in meters above sea level. Temperatures are reported in Celsius.
base_map_yucatan.pdf Map of the study area with the locations of the monitoring stations, the Ring of Cenotes, and several geographic landmarks.
raw levelogger_files Solinst xml formatted files containing raw water pressure and temperature time series data. Water pressures are in meters of water and temperatures are in Celsius.
