Abstract

Annual 30-meter resolution posterior irrigation probability maps for Nebraska, 2003–2023, produced using a Bayesian framework that combines Landsat-derived land surface temperature (LST) and county-level priors on irrigation prevalence. For each county-year, the likelihood that a maize pixel is irrigated is derived from its thermal position relative to a within-scene grassland LST cumulative distribution function. Likelihoods are combined across Landsat scenes and updated with a Beta prior informed by USDA/NASS county-level irrigation statistics to produce a posterior irrigation probability at each 30-meter maize pixel. Maps are provided as single-band GeoTIFFs (band name: p_irrigated, range 0–1, CRS: EPSG:4326) for each year 2003–2023. Methods and validation against Nebraska Natural Resources District flow-meter records are described in Berendes, Grassini, and Huybers.

Name Value
Single-band GeoTIFF files (band name: p_irrigated, range 0–1, CRS: EPSG:4326, resolution: 30 m) Single-band GeoTIFF files (band name: p_irrigated, range 0–1, CRS: EPSG:4326, resolution: 30 m). One file per year, named NE_posterior_YEAR.tif. Values represent the posterior probability that each 30 m maize pixel is irrigated during the July–August growing season.
