Abstract

This data serves as a data repository for McDowell et al, XXXX. It includes the Hydrus 1D input and output files for 12 different scenarios: three different soil profiles simulated for four different year with varying total annual precipitation. These files are located in the Hydrus 1D model results folder and for more information on the file names see the README text. The initial conditions for each model were determined by modelling the 3 years prior with daily time steps. These spin-up models are not included in the repository. This repository also contains the measured soil water retention curves (SWRC) and hydraulic conductivity curves (HCC) used as model inputs. The SWRC and HCC were measured using a Hyprop2 (METER Group) and all the measurements are location in the Hyprop_measurements excel file. Each sheet provides the raw data and the SWRC and conductivity HCC evaluations for a different sample. These data provide the measurements, not the fitted cuvres. The data can be fitted with different SWRC/HCC models using the raw data and free HYPROP-FIT software or fitting the model directly to the measurement data included here using R or other statistical packages.

Hydrus 1D Model Results

This folder contains the Hydrus 1D input and output files for 12 different scenarios. Each scenario has its own folder and the nomenclature for the folder names is as follows: soil profile_year. There are four different years modeled and each year has a different total annual precipitation, see paper text for details. There are three different soil profiles modeled: one observed and two hypothetical profiles. The folders titles that contain WauT1 PT2 are the model results for the observed loess-paleosol. The SBS and NP folders are the hypothetical profiles, where SBS has a shallow Brady Soil and the NP has no paleosols in the loess profile. The names of the output files end with .OUT and the names of the input files end with .IN. The file names are kept the as those used in Hydrus (imunek et al., 2009, pp. 181182, 227242). Units for all files are the same: [L]=cm and [T]=hour.

Hyprop_Measurements excel file

The Hyprop measurement excel file contains all the soil-water retention curve (SWRC) and hydraulic conductivity curve measurements for each sample mentioned in the associated publication. The samples are separated by sheets and each sheet contains 1. General sample information 2. The raw hyprop measurements that can be input into HYPROP-FIT for fitting 2. The SWRC Evaluation 3. The hydraulic conductivity evaluation 4. WP4 measurements (these values are alreday added the the SWRC evaluation) Units are are listed in the column names. The pipet method was used to measure the soil texture precentages llocated in the general information section. We did not complete soil texture measurments by pipete for all samples.
