Abstract

This resource introduces students to HydroShare through a hands-on clipping exercise. It bundles a HUC-8 watershed boundary for the Upper Iowa River (07060002), a sample digital elevation model (DEM) covering the surrounding area, and a Jupyter notebook that clips the DEM to the watershed and reports basic terrain statistics.

The notebook is built to run in CUAHSI JupyterHub. Students copy the resource to their own account, open the notebook, run all cells, and then complete a short take-home task: produce one figure or statistic of their own and add it to the resource.

The goal is for each student to leave with their own published HydroShare resource that combines vector data, raster data, code, and a short written summary.
