Abstract
This dataset converts the disinfection by-product (DBP) compliance monitoring that United States public water systems submit under the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rules into a validated sampling-event panel. It contains 3,154,095 sampling events for the four trihalomethanes and five haloacetic acids, covering 2006-2019, 60,468 public water systems and 52 states and territories, derived from the 13,772,104 analyte results in the US Environmental Protection Agency's Third and Fourth Six-Year Review collections. Each event carries the reported family total and all available species concentrations, system and sampling attributes, county FIPS code, NOAA climate-division identifier and the division's monthly mean temperature (97.4% of events linked), together with explicit quality flags for species completeness, non-detect fraction and brominated-fraction validity. Intended use: within-system analysis of DBP occurrence, source-water contrasts in level and speciation, seasonal and temperature sensitivity analysis, and benchmarking of DBP formation models. Before use, read data_dictionary.csv (all variables, units and missing-value conventions) and README.md (usage caveats); in particular, BR_FRACTION must only be used where BR_FRACTION_VALID is TRUE, and the two Six-Year Review rounds should not be pooled without testing comparability. A minimal-dependency example script (pandas only) is included.
