Abstract

This dataset contains streamflow data for reservoir-regulated catchments in the European Alpine region. The dataset is split into two parts, suitable for two different analysis: a) "Pre_Post", representing streamflow records at the same location before and after the construction of reservoirs and b) "Up_Down", representing streamflow records at gauging stations up- and downstream of reservoirs. The streamflow records are of individual length for each station and are within a timeframe of 1 Oct 1899 to 30 Sep 2020.
The dataset accompanies the paper "How do reservoirs influence streamflow extremes? Insights from a large-sample analysis in the Alpine Region" by Götte et al. (DOI 10.1088/3033-4942/ae0151).

Title: Reservoir regulated catchments in the European Alpine region

Contact: Jonas Götte, jonas.goette@slf.ch

Description: This dataset contains streamflow data for reservoir-regulated catchments in the European Alpine region. "Matched_Natural.zip" contains additional streamflow time series from non-reservoir-regulated catchments which are close to regulated catchments, as shown in 'CatchmentMatches.csv'. These time series can be used to estimate natural changes over time. The dataset accompanies the paper "How do reservoirs influence streamflow extremes? Insights from a large-sample analysis in the Alpine Region" by Götte et al. (DOI 10.1088/3033-4942/ae0151).

Structure of the meta file "Pre_Post_Qmeta.csv":
	- "ID": ID of gauge. It consists of an abbreveation for each country/sub region and the original ID as used by the data provider. If no data provider ID was available, the IDs were generated by enumerating the gauges

	- "River": Name of river the gauge is located on
	- "Area": Catchment area [km2]
	- "ElevMean": Mean catchment elevation [m]
	- "ElevMedian": Median catchment elevation [m]
	- "ElevMin": Minimum catchment elevation [m]
	- "ElevMax": Maximum catchment elevation [m]
	- "X_Coordinate": Gauging station x-coordinate (EPSG: 4326, WGS 84)
	- "Y_Coordinate": Gauging station y-coordinate (EPSG: 4326, WGS 84)
