Abstract
Did you know you can use existing external cloud storage with Hyrdoshare? Instead of copying your data over to Hydroshare, with external storage mounts you can leverage existing data to create Hydroshare resources, make your data discoverable, and launch compute environments. CIROH already has a bucket that is integrated with Hydroshare and available to use for CIROH Community members. Using the CIROH bucket allows you to bypass Hydroshare's 20GB storage quota limit and work with larger datasets.
This resource contains documentation for:
- How to use CIROH's existing storage (GCS bucket) in Hydroshare
- How to set up a new bucket integration with Hydroshare

Working with external storage in Hydroshare
Did you know you can use existing cloud storage within Hyrdoshare? Instead of copying your data over to Hydroshare (which uses up resources and money), with external storage mounts you can leverage existing data to create Hydroshare resources, make your data discoverable, and launch compute environments.
Setting up a new bucket integration with Hydroshare
If you'd like to integrate an existing S3-compatible storage bucket with Hydroshare, please reach out to Callie on Hydroshare's development team at cporter-borden@cuahsi.org to get the process started. We are also actively looking for partners to help us explore and expand the bring-your-own-storage featureset within Hydroshare.
Using CIROH's existing GCS bucket within Hydroshare
CIROH already has a bucket that is integrated with Hydroshare and available to use for CIROH Community members. Using the CIROH bucket allows you to bypass Hydroshare's 20GB storage quota limit and work with larger datasets.
How to use the CIROH bucket
In order to store your Hydroshare resource data in CIROH’s bucket, you just need to add the CIROH-DATA user as the resources’s quota holder. See the instructions here or follow the steps below. Note: you will need to be a member of a CIROH Community Group in Hydroshare in order to take advantage of the CIROH bucket. See here for instructions on joining a group.
- Add the CIROH-DATA user as an owner. Click “Manage Access” on your resource, and under “Give Access,” search for user CIROH-DATA and add as an owner.
- Change the Quota Holder to the CIROH-DATA user. At the bottom of the “Manage Access” modal under “Change quota holder to another owner,” select the CIROH-DATA user from the list of options and save your changes.
