Abstract

Multiple types of data were collected at four sites along West Creek in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Each site had a large piece of anthropogenic debris; water tank, shopping cart, concrete pipe, round metal and concrete base. GPS survey data were collected in spring and fall of 2023 and spring and summer of 2024. Data was also collected on between 10 and 16 0.5msq patches at each site. They were photographed in the fall of 2022, spring and fall of 2023 and spring and summer of 2024. A modified Pebble Counts workflow (Purinton and Bookhagen 2021) was used to create a dataset of b-axis measurements.

West Creek geomorphology data

Methods

Data were collected at four sites on West Creek in the West Creek Reservation in Parma, Ohio. For the GPS survey data, Sokkia and Topcon total stations were used in May 2023, September 2023, May 2024 and August 2024. Ten to 16 0.5 msq patches were established in September 2022 and photographed. Repeat photographs were then taken in May 2023, September 2023, November 2023, May 2024, and August 2024.

Pebble Counts

Image resolutions of the photographs were calculated in Excel, then the Pebble Counts python script was used to get an intial set of measurements. ImageJ was used to manually measure grains larger than 74 pixels and ones that Python missed.

GPS Survey data

The data from the survey station were formatted in Excel to include location, date, and coordinates. These were used to create TINs, and those were used to create surface difference rasters at 50 cm resolution.

pebble_counts

Raw data The raw datasets for each site contain the b-axis measurements from Python and ImageJ.
Quantiles The quantile datasets contain the quantiles for each patch at each site by date, and also include percent vegetation, whether the patch was aqueous, and the dominant non-measurable grain size (e.g. sand, gravel).

survey_data

Survey data Survey location, survey date, point location identifiers, notes, comparisons, and x, y, and z coordinates.
Surface difference rasters TINs created in ArcGIS based on the total station data. Surface difference rasters created at 50 cm resolution.
