ABSTRACT:
This dataset consists of stable water isotope measurements of oxygen (δ18O) and hydrogen (δ2H) for six floodplain forests in the state of Minas Gerais, in southeastern Brazil. The data was acquired within the WatForFun (Water level regimes and forest functioning in floodplain forests) project.
The floodplain forests are located at the mouth of the Capivari, Jacaré, Aiuruoca, Jequitaí, Verde Grande, and Carinhanha rivers (see coordinates in the Coordinates.csv file). We took samples in five eco-units within each floodplain forest: Marginal levee (ML), Lower Terrace (LT), Higher Terrace (HT), Lower Plain (LP), and Higher Plain (HP). There were two plots for each eco-unit (Plot A and Plot B). Location P refers to the precipitation sampling site. We sampled the precipitation (P), groundwater (GW), river (Qriver), lagoon (Qlagoon), soil at five depths from 5 cm to 100 cm below the soil surface (S5-20, S20-40, S40-60, S60-80, S80-100), and vegetation (V). Samples were collected during four sampling campaigns (dry season of 2021, wet season of 2022, dry season of 2022, and wet season of 2023). The dates of sampling, extraction, and analysis are also indicated in the dataset (DD/MM/YYYY format).
Soil and xylem water were extracted via cryogenic vacuum extraction. The dataset indicates whether the isotopic analysis was conducted via IRMS, CRDS without micro-combustion module, or CRDS with the micro-combustion module. All data are reported relative to the Vienna Mean Ocean Water standard using the delta notation.
The inundation dynamics of the study sites are described in Meyer Oliveira et al. (2024) (https://doi.org/10.1002/hyp.15203). The water level dataset is available in Hydroshare (https://www.hydroshare.org/resource/10682cc81b714737bf5d2b4eddd543ea/).
ABSTRACT:
This dataset accompanies the paper "Inundation dynamics in seasonally dry floodplain forests in southeastern Brazil" submitted to Hydrological Processes. It consists of: (1) Coordinates of the study sites; (2) Water level data for 60 wells installed across 6 floodplain forests in southeastern Brazil (Aiuruoca, Capivari, Jacare, Jequitai, Verde Grande and Carinhanha); (3) Saturated hydraulic conductivity measurements at the surface and at 25 and 40cm depths for the study sites; (4) Daily precipitation data interpolated for the study sites location based on National Water Agency data.
