ABSTRACT:

This dataset provides hydrochemical data from the deep Brilon karst aquifer (Germany). The data are of great importance for water management authorities, as the Brilon system is crucial for the drinking water supply of the region. Six sampling campaigns were conducted over an annual cycle from September 2020 to July 2021. Water samples were collected at karst springs, drinking water wells, surface streams and a waste water influenced stream. The data are stored in a single .xlsx file. Parameters include:
Physicochemical properties: air temperature, water temperature, specific electrical conductivity (EC), pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), redox potential (Eh), turbidity, acid capacity to pH 4.3.
Total organic carbon (TOC), dissolved organic carbon (DOC).
Fecal bacteria: coliform bacteria, E. coli.
Major ions: Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Na⁺, K⁺, Cl⁻, NO₃⁻, SO₄²⁻, HCO₃⁻.
Trace elements: Li, Be, Al, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ga, As, Rb, Sr, Cd, Cs, Ba, Ti, Bi, U, Th.
Rare-earth elements: La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu.

The dataset is the basis to develop an improved understanding of the Brilon karst system and can be used by water management authorities and researchers from different fields.
