ABSTRACT:

Garfield Park Eco-Orchard is a planned community-led green infrastructure installation on a vacant lot in the Chicago neighborhood of Garfield Park. The site is currently a vacant lot that will be redeveloped to include fruit and nut trees as well as a site-scale open-graded stone reservoir. Water level sensors were installed in catch basins surrounding the site in October 2021. One piezometer equipped with a water level sensor was installed on-site in July 2022. Monitoring of the site will continue after the site has been redeveloped and green infrastructure has been installed to measure changes in stormwater storage.

ABSTRACT:

Indian Boundary Prairies (IBP) is a prairie-wetland complex located in Markham, Illinois, south of Chicago. The prairies are adjacent to residential neighborhoods subject to frequent flooding and bordered by major highways. In September 2020, 10 piezometers, six containing water level sensors (Solinst Levelogger Junior Edge, Model 3001) and four containing water level and electrical conductivity sensors (Solinst Levelogger Edge, Model 3001) were installed across Sundrop Prairie. At the time of piezometer installation, soil cores were also collected, characterized and analyzed for heavy metal concentrations. Each sensor collects a water level measurement every hour. This installation and sampling campaign is a part of larger effort to assess surface water and groundwater dynamics in urban environments. This resource includes approximately 1.5 years of data, from early 2021, shortly after installation of the sensors, until June 2022.
