ABSTRACT:

The objective of this project is to evaluate a novel method for measuring directly connected impervious area (DCIA) and unconnected impervious area (UCIA). I’ve termed this new method, the Gregory Method. I plan on comparing this new method with several, more traditional methods of finding DCIA and UCIA (e.g. manual scanning and representative sampling). In performing this comparison, I would like to elucidate the accuracy and the speed of each technique. To evaluate each technique, I will use publicly available satellite imagery, land use/cover data from the Southwest Florida Water Management District and land use/cover data from USGS as well as data from a consulting firm, Jones Edmunds.
